Terms
These terms are the agreement between you and STANMASH LTD when you use novel.you. By using the site, you agree to them. If you don’t agree, don’t use novel.you.
Who we are
novel.you is run by STANMASH LTD, a private company limited by shares, registered in England and Wales under company number 17337841. Registered office: Stoney Works, 8 Stoney Lane, London SE19 3BD, United Kingdom. In these terms, “we” and “us” mean STANMASH LTD.
What novel.you is
novel.you writes a book in the language you’re learning, from your answers to a short quiz. We write the book with AI and check its words against the number of words you told us you know. You can read the book, tap words to see what they mean, open translations, listen in an AI voice and practice the words you save.
Chapter 1 of each book is free, and you don’t need an account or a card to read it. To read the next chapters, you sign in, and continuing a book can need a paid plan. Plans and prices are on the pricing page. We can change, add or remove features, and we will update these terms when a change affects you.
The hero of your book is a story character. We ask only for a first name, never for a photo. Pictures in books show places, objects, hands and people from behind, never a face. Audio uses the standard AI voices of our speech provider: we don’t copy or imitate anyone’s voice, and when you check your pronunciation, we don’t keep the recording.
Your account
You sign in with a code sent to your email, with Google or with a passkey. Keep access to your email and your devices safe: anyone who can read your sign-in codes can open your account. You must be at least 13 years old to use novel.you, and if the law where you live sets a higher age for using online services on your own, you must be that age or have a parent’s permission.
Books you start without signing in belong to the browser where you started them. They are deleted 30 days after you last open them, unless you sign in before then and they move to your account. Books in your account stay until you delete your account. How we handle your data is on the privacy page.
What you can’t ask for
Your quiz answers, including the hero’s name, are sent to AI to write your book. Don’t use them to ask us to write anything that:
- is illegal where you live or in the United Kingdom;
- sexualizes children in any way;
- attacks people for their race, religion, gender, sexuality, disability or origin;
- harasses or threatens anyone;
- is about a real person other than you without their permission, including famous people;
- promotes violence, self-harm or terrorism;
- copies someone else’s work or uses a name or brand in a way that breaks their rights.
Don’t try to break, overload or get around the limits of the service, for example with scripts that start many books, and don’t use novel.you to build a competing service.
You are responsible for what you enter
Most quiz answers are picked from fixed lists. The only text you type is the hero’s name: up to 24 letters, with no numbers, links or symbols. Use your own name or a made-up one. You are responsible for the name you give.
Your book and who owns it
Your book is written for you. You can read it, keep it and share short parts of it for personal, non-commercial use, for example with a teacher or a friend. You can’t sell it or publish it as your own work.
The site, its design, its code, the sample pages and the word lists belong to STANMASH LTD. You can’t copy them for anything other than your own learning.
If you think a book or another part of novel.you uses your work or breaks your rights, write to hello@novel.you. Tell us what it is, where it is and why you think it breaks your rights. We will look at it and reply.
We can remove books
We can stop writing a book, remove a book or close an account if it breaks these terms, if the law requires it, or if it puts other people or the service at risk. When we can, we will tell you why.
AI can make mistakes
Books, meanings of words, translations and audio are made by AI. They can contain mistakes: a wrong meaning, an unnatural sentence or a word said the wrong way. Use novel.you as reading practice, not as the only source for an exam, a translation you depend on, or medical, legal or financial advice. If you find a mistake, tell us.
Payments and refunds
Paid plans are subscriptions. What each plan includes and what it costs is on the pricing page. Prices are in US dollars and include tax, and we show you the price before you pay.
Our order process is run by our online reseller Paddle.com. Paddle is the merchant of record for all our orders: it takes the payment, charges tax, sends your receipts and handles refunds. When you pay, you also agree to Paddle’s buyer terms.
A plan renews automatically at the end of each month or year until you cancel it. You can cancel anytime from Manage billing on the Plan page in your account. After you cancel, your plan stays until the end of the period you paid for, and the books you have stay with you. If you change your plan, the change starts right away, and Paddle charges or credits the difference for the rest of the period.
You can get a full refund within 14 days of your first payment for a plan. How it works, and how to ask, is on the refunds page. Refunds also follow Paddle’s buyer terms. If you live in the United Kingdom or the European Union, you also keep your rights under consumer law.
If you delete your account, we cancel your plan at once. If you want a refund too, ask for it before you delete your account.
The service is provided as it is
We work to keep novel.you running and correct, but we can’t promise that it will always be available, fast or free of errors. We are not responsible for losses that we couldn’t reasonably expect when you started using the service, or for losses caused by things outside our control.
Nothing in these terms limits our responsibility for death or personal injury caused by our negligence, for fraud, or for anything else the law doesn’t let us limit. If you use novel.you as a consumer, you also keep your rights under consumer law.
Ending your use
You can stop using novel.you at any time and delete your account from Settings. If you have a paid plan, deleting your account cancels it at once; ask for a refund before you delete it. We can end your access if you break these terms, as described above.
Changes to these terms
We may update these terms. The date at the top shows the last change. If a change matters for how you use novel.you, we will tell you on the site before it takes effect.
Law and contact
These terms are governed by the law of England and Wales. If you live elsewhere in the United Kingdom or in the European Union, you can also use the courts and consumer rights of the place where you live.
